Processing speed refers to the brain's ability to receive and process information and form a representation for decision-making. A decision may consist of a response to a stimulus, or a change in action or strategy. The higher the processing speed, the more efficiently the brain functions. Processing speed does not directly measure an individual's intelligence, although high intelligence often manifests as the ability to draw rapid inferences. Processing speed does not measure wisdom—that is, an individual's knowledge base—nor does it measure moral or ethical comprehension.

Visual perception refers to the brain's capacity to process visual stimuli, interpret these sensory inputs, and form representations based on visual information. This is required, among other things, to perceive spatial orientation and comprehend the meaning of visual stimuli.

Attention refers to the ability to direct cognitive resources toward a specific task and suppress distractors during its execution.

Memory refers to the capacity to encode events, skills, and semantic content, retain them in mind, and retrieve them for active processing after a delay.
